A brand new series. An iconic new detective duo. And a puzzling new murder to solve…
Steve Wheeler is enjoying retired life. He does the odd bit of investigation work, but he prefers his familiar habits and routines: the pub quiz, his favorite bench, his cat waiting for him when he comes home. His days of adventure are over: adrenaline is daughter-in-law Amy’s business now.
Amy Wheeler thinks adrenaline is good for the soul. As a private security officer, she doesn’t stay still long enough for habits or routines. She’s currently on a remote island keeping world-famous author Rosie D’Antonio alive. Which was meant to be an easy job…
Then a dead body, a bag of money, and a killer with their sights on Amy have her sending an SOS to the only person she trusts. A breakneck race around the world begins, but can Amy and Steve stay one step ahead of a lethal enemy?
Narrated by Nicola Walker, We Solve Murders introduces us to Amy Wheeler, a private security officer who is currently on a remote island protecting author Rosie D’Antonio. Amy has layers and has seen many adventures. She is a modern thinker who is married, but both are busy pursuing their own careers. Rosie, our author, is a hoot. She longs for adventure and the golden days of her youth. She is currently being targeted by a dangerous individual after writing him into her latest book.
A dead body and an unexpected attack soon have Amy and Rosie on the run. When Amy isn’t sure who to trust, she turns to her step-father, investigator, Steve Wheeler. I loved the story that unfolds from the twists and turns in the case to the unique characters we met along the way. The plot felt very much like a top action thriller. The author included points of views from the assassin, Steve, Rosie and Amy. While it could be dark, there were plenty of moments that had me laughing. Steve was clever and Rosie was a deliciously naughty. Think, Blanche from Golden Girls. I liked Amy, who kept her cool better than I ever would have.
I loved listening and find Osman’s books translate very well into the audiobook format. Nicola Walker did a splendid job of capturing Amy, Steve, and Rosie.
If you love the Thursday Murder Club series and action-packed mystery thrillers, you’ll want to check out We Solve Murders. The author set the series up nicely, and I look forward to the next one.
