Real Women Have Curves Musical Eyeing 2025 Broadway Bow
Sergio Trujillo directed and choreographed the musical’s world premiere at American Repertory Theatre in 2023.
Producers Barry and Fran Weissler and Jack Noseworthy plan to bring their new musical Real Women Have Curves to Broadway in 2025, with dates and further details to be announced. The work made its world premiere at American Repertory Theatre in 2023.
The project is being helmed by Sergio Trujillo, who’s directing and choreographing. The musical is adapted from Josefina López’s 1993 play, which also had a 2002 film version. Joy Huerta and Benjamin Velez have written the music and lyrics with a book by Lisa Loomer and additional material by Nell Benjamin. The work follows a first-generation child of Mexican immigrants torn between joining the family garment business or embarking on her own dream of attending college in NYC.
Florencia Cuenca Jennifer Sanchez, Elisa Galindez, and Aline Mayagoitia from the musical’s world premiere cast will perform the musical’s title song live September 15, with time and location to be revealed in the coming days. No casting for the Broadway bow has been revealed.
Nadia DiGiallonardo is the musical’s music supervisor, with further creative team members to be announced.

The producing team also includes Peggy Koenig, Stan Ponte, John Gore Organization, Ira Pittelman, Michael Valdes, Michael P. Kruke, The Nederlander Organization, Ramesh Narasimhan, Emerald Drive, HGH Productions, Jared King, Peter May, James R. Schnepper, and Jayne Baron Sherman.
New York Times is reporting the project has been capitalized at $16.5 million.
