U.K. Premiere of The Story of My Life Begins September 10
Robert McWhir directs the two-person work, which co-stars Tim Edwards and Markus Sodergren.
Stage Door Theatre’s U.K. premiere of the 2009 Broadway musical The Story of My Life begins previews September 10 at the Drury Lane venue.
Originally scheduled to start performances September 4, the delay followed the departure of cast member George Renshaw, previously announced to play the role of Alvin. Tim Edwards (The Book of Mormon, Wicked) now co-stars in the two-person musical alongside Markus Sodergren (Heathers the Musical) as Thomas. Robert McWhir directs.
Opening night is set for September 13, and performances will continue through October 19.
Featuring a score by Neil Bartram and a book by Brian Hill, The Story of My Life follows
two childhood friends from age six to 35. The musical finds
best-selling author Thomas Weaver, who has come back to his hometown to
deliver the eulogy for his childhood friend, Alvin Kelby, but finds
himself scrambling for something to say. His reality is shattered by the
memory of Alvin, who takes him deep into Thomas’ mind cluttered with a
lifetime of stories.
Aaron Clingham is the musical director, and David Shields is the designer.
The Story of My Life played 19 previews and five regular
performances at Broadway’s Booth Theatre in February 2009. The cast
featured Will Chase and Malcolm Gets under the direction of Richard
Maltby, Jr. It was subsequently nominated for four Drama Desk Awards.
