After Van Gogh’s multisensory exhibition, now it’s the turn of Beyond Monet to show a new immersive exhibition that allows the viewers to immerse in Monet’s paintings. Over 400 works of Claude Monet will be projected by high-end technology, along with original music scoring. This exhibition is held in a 50.000 square feet area offering the guest a convenient space to enjoy the artworks.

Beyond Monet organized its Toronto’s premier in September 2021 and will be reopening on 1st December 2021. This exhibition is also coming soon in other cities in Canada and the US, like Calgary, Ottawa, and Miami. The schedule can be checked on Beyond Monet’s website.

Claude Monet (1840-1926) was the leader of the Impressionist movement. He was the person who gave the name to this movement. Monet is well-known for his painting in the open air and capturing natural light. He was sensitive to the decorative qualities of color and applied it in small brushstrokes resulting in broad fields of color. His artworks show amazing paintings that focused on the surface effect.

One of Monet’s artistic influences comes from his encounter with the North African environment when he was sent to Algiers for military service. After his service, he was impacted by Dutch landscape and marine artist, Johan Jongkind. Afterward, Monet left Paris, attended Charles Gleyre’s studio in Swiss, where he met future impressionists such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Frédéric Bazille, and Alfred Sisley.

Most of Monet’s famous paintings, such as Woman with a Parasol – Madame Monet and Her Son (1875), Water Lilies (1915-1926), and Garden at Vétheuil (1881) will be exhibited in Beyond Monet. His artworks are expanded to the entire exhibition space together with sound effects and remarkable scenography. All of these elements build multisensory exhibition that activate our senses to experience the captivating atmosphere of Monet’s paintings. This art journey is as if we are inside Monet’s world and see through Monet’s eyes.

Recently, multisensory exhibitions and galleries is increasingly popular all around the world. The museums and galleries have moved from their role to show distinguished objects, into the active, dialogic, transformative roles that provide modeling of human-environment relationships. (Bálint Veres, 2019). Multisensory experience can activate each sensory system’s functioning that allows us to gain a more comprehensive and integral understanding of perceived objects.

Beyond Monet is really worthy to be visited. It took over 10,000 hours to be created. This exhibition does not only show Claude Monet’s paintings but also weaves his own words throughout the installation with quotes and excerpts. Beyond Monet carries out its didactic role about Monet’s works as well as its interactive role that allow the viewers to experience Monet’s world by themselves.
