This is them now.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s divorce “has the potential to get ugly” since they do not have a prenup in place, a source told PEOPLE in a report published Tuesday.
Since the exes didn’t sign the written marital contract when they tied the knot in Las Vegas in July 2022, all the earnings, profits and assets they made during their union are considered community property.
According to the source, “there are some sticking points over financials” between Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, who are starting mediation with celebrity divorce attorney Laura Wasser.
Lopez wrote in her divorce filing on August 20 that her assets were “unknown” to her, the source said.
Under California law, anything the “Let’s Get Loud” singer made during her marriage to Affleck is subject to division between the two, and vice versa.
Lopez starred in and produced several movies while wed to Affleck including “The Mother,” “This Is Me…Now” and “Atlas.” She also launched her cocktail brand, Delola, and released another album, “This Is Me…Now,” inspired by her relationship with Affleck.
Her estimated net worth in 2024 is a whopping $400 million.
Affleck, meanwhile, has starred in movies like “Air” and “Hypnotic” since marrying Lopez. He’s also produced “The Instigators” and finished filming “The Accountant 2.”
He landed on Forbes’ 2023 list of the highest-paid actors with an estimated $38 million in earnings last year.
The exes have also made millions from commercials like the Dunkin’ Donuts Super Bowl ad.
Another shared Bennifer asset is their $60 million Beverly Hills house that they bought last year. The duo put the 12-bedroom, 24-bathroom property that was supposed to be their forever home on the market this summer for $68 million.
Affleck moved out of the marital home and paid $20.5 million for a Los Angeles mansion.
A source recently told PEOPLE that the “Argo” actor is “slowly moving into his new home,” while Lopez is still shopping for a new house for herself.
“She’s surrounded by family, friends and her kids,” the insider said about Lopez, who shares 16-year-old twins Max and Emme, 16, with her ex-husband, Marc Anthony.
“She always manages to have a positive outlook,” the source added. “The divorce is difficult for her, but she always finds a way to move forward.”
Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck on the two-year anniversary of their wedding ceremony in Georgia.
She listed the date of separation as April 26, 2024. She also filed to legally drop her ex’s famous last name, after changing her name to Jennifer Lynn Affleck when the couple married in 2022.
Lopez did not request spousal support and asked the judge to deny Affleck support.
This is Lopez’s fourth divorce and Affleck’s second divorce.
