Cristiano Ronaldo is used to setting records on the soccer field, and now he’s setting them on social media.
The Portugal striker launched his YouTube channel on Wednesday and within 90 minutes it had become the fastest ever to hit one million subscribers and was presented with a gold plaque (see below).
At press time this morning, that number had ballooned to over 30 million — again the setting the record for the quickest to achieve that figure.
One video, in which Ronaldo and his wife Georgina talk about themselves and their relationship, is already at nearly 10 million views.
The star has 170 million subscribers on Facebook, 112.6 million on X/Twitter and 636 million on Instagram.
As such, he is one of the most recognisable and wealthiest sports stars in the world, and remains active as the captain of Saudi Arabian team Al Nasser and the Portugal national team at the age of 39.
He has the most international caps (200) and international goals (130), and won the Ballon d’Or, the highest solo achievement for soccer players, five times. Ronaldo scored yesterday as Al Nasser began their latest campaign in the Saudi Pro League with a 1-1 draw against Al-Rael.
