Kevin Morby has announced a new one-day music festival that he curated. This Is a Festival, whose title is a nod to Morby’s 2022 album This Is a Photograph, is presented by Noise Pop and set to take place at the Quarry Amphitheater in Santa Cruz, California. The festival will feature live sets by Jessica Pratt, Youth Lagoon, Makaya McCraven, Ben Kweller, and Blackstarkids, with Morby himself slated to headline. Check out the poster below.
“Getting asked to host a festival is very surreal. It feels like a dream in which you’re trying to rationalize how all of these different people from your life are somehow in the same place at the same time,” said Morby in a press release. “In the case of my festival, it’s an absolute dream come true: five of my favorite artists spanning the last twenty years of my life all performing at an amphitheater that will be MC’d by my favorite podcast, How Long Gone. Come watch myself, Jessica Pratt, Youth Lagoon, Ben Kweller, Makaya Mccraven, and Blackstarkids share the stage of the Quarry Amphitheater in Santa Cruz this October—which is to really say—come be in my dream!”
Last year, Morby released More Photographs (A Continuum), a companion piece to This Is a Photograph, featuring new versions of songs from that LP. He also rolled out Music From Montana Story, his soundtrack contributions to Scott McGehee and David Siegel’s film of the same name starring Haley Lu Richardson and Owen Teague.
