After a successful inaugural edition last year, the Heavy Chicago festival is returning in 2024 on the weekend of November 1st at the Avondale Music Hall.
This year, the three-day metal festival will be headlined by Bongripper (Friday, November 1st), Earth Crisis (Saturday, November 2nd), and Cynic (Sunday, November 3rd).
Tickets go on sale Friday (August 9th) at 10 a.m. CT via the festival’s ticket provider, with increasing tiers of pricing as more are sold.
Friday’s lineup also includes a yet-to-be-announced “big surprise” local act (to be unveiled September 8th), in addition to Indiana speed metallers Wraith, long-running Chicago goth metal act Avernus (playing their first show in nine years), and Atlas Moth-associated project Motherless.
Saturday’s bill is rounded out by Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta performing with Legions of Doom, grindcore group EarthBurner, The Crosses playing a special Die Kreuzen set (with Dan Kubinski on vocals), and Usurper’s first show in five years.
Lastly, Sunday features thrashers Toxic Holocaust, black metal vets Profanatica, and Chicago heroes and ex-Trouble act The Skull playing a special Trouble-centric set. Another band “that is buzzing right now and becoming local heroes,” according to the press release, will be announced for Sunday’s bill in October.
“Our inaugural edition last year was a great success!” enthused festival promoter Sean Duffy via a press release. “Once again we are in the hip hood of Avondale, which Time Out says is one of the buzziest neighborhoods in the world. We are over the moon to welcome our headliners this year…”
