Jim Steinman, the iconic rock legend and composer who was responsible for writing many of Meatloaf, Celine Dion, Air Supply, and Bonnie Tyler’s music passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 19 at age 73. To many of his fans, he was known as the “father of the power ballads.” His cause of death is unknown although he had ongoing health issues. According to reports on TMZ an emergency call to his home in Connecticut around 3:30 AM Sunday to have him transported to the hospital.
Steinman wrote and produced many of Meatloaf’s classic rock albums and hits including, “Bat Out of Hell“ and “Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell.“ The album, Bat Out of Hell became one of Meat Loaf’s best-selling albums of all time. He also wrote Meat Loaf’s “Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)” and “Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through“ He’s also the brainchild behind Bonnie Tyler’s hit, “Total Eclipse of the Heart,“ Air Supply’s “Making Love Out of Nothing At All,” and Celine Dion’s cover hit, “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now“ originally recorded by Pandora’s Box.

Jim also worked with Def Leppard, Barbra Streisand, Billy Squier, and The Sisters of Mercy. His greatest accomplishments were producing #1 and #2 songs on Billboard “Total Eclipse” claimed the #1 spot for weeks and and “Making Love” was second in line.
RIP Jim. You will be remembered for your brilliant iconic “broadway-like” “rock opera” masterpieces.
