The new film, “Rock Camp” is an extraordinary real-life documentary about an actual workshop-style rock music camp where fans get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to jam with their famous rock star heroes and learn their craft as musicians.

The famous Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp was founded by entrepreneur/rock promoter/owner David Fishof who is featured at the beginning of the film as he discusses how his idea became a reality. I interviewed Fishof myself a few years back.

The movie is available on all streaming platforms including Amazon Prime.

Check out the trailer here on YouTube:

The film received a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is highly recommended for all rock and roll enthusiasts and aspiring musicians. It features interviews with famous rock icons like Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of KISS, Dave Mustaine, Joe Perry of Aerosmith, The Who’s Roger Daltrey, Lita Ford, Alice Cooper, Sammy Hagar, Nancy Wilson of Heart, and backstage footage of Slash of Guns ‘N’ Roses, Vince Neil and Tommy Lee of Motley Crue, Joe Walsh of The Eagles, Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Ringo Starr, etc. It features archive footage of performances by campers and rock icons together on stage, as well as past footage of The Monkees, Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys, Lou Gramm of Foreigner, Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne, Blue Oyster Cult I also interviewed him).

The film also features interviews with campers who share their incredible experiences of being there and watching how each of them gain confidence in themselves and learn from their iconic rock star heroes.  Some ‘alumni’ started their own music careers, others say the rock camp changed their lives. One camper that stands out in particular, is Tammy Fisher, a woman from New Jersey who works for an accounting firm and is a major KISS fan, KISS memorabilia collector, drummer, and singer.

“Rock Camp” was filmed in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New Jersey, and New York.  The film is not rated. Up until the Covid-19 crisis, the camp was hosted in various locations but has gone virtual. Their star-studded guests include Robby Kreiger of The Doors, (Yes, I interviewed the Doors legend too!)  Joel Hoekstra, (Whitesnake, Trans Siberian Orchestra) Alan White of YES, The Who’s Roger Daltrey, Frank Hannon of Tesla, and more. More famous rock star icons will be announced for virtual masterclasses. They will offer in-person classes again as the Covid-19 recovery progresses.
