Wales in the UK has been popularly called “the land of song,” and its traditional culture has been rooted in oral art forms, including the spoken and written word, particularly choral singing involving multiple parts and complex harmonies... But there is more to it. Wales has a thriving art scene with plenty of interesting arts events, with a few inspiring galleries. There’s also a strong history of fantastic art in all Celtic countries, I think, with many artists being inspired by the incredible landscapes or maybe ancient stories about Druids and Celtic Wicca. All that, is, coming from the old Celtic countries, including Wales. But if you’re interested in art or Wales, here is a little something…
The Waterfront Gallery in Wales is supported by the Welsh Government,
and Wales Contemporary gives artists the opportunity to show their work in Milford Haven, Wales, and win prizes worth £12,000. This is open call that cover artists based in the UK and internationally to submit work in 2D or 3D in any subject of choice. What is the Welsh art today? The artworks using state-of-the-art equipment which will let spectators to view art collection, making it more accessible to a public. Following Wales-wide consultations, The Waterfront Gallery creating an array of material and interactive content, which will mean that you will be able to learn about and view artworks from all displayed contemporary art work. In order to view and access artworks not currently or gain an insight into how contemporary art is cared for. Accepted mediums for Wales Contemporary competition include painting, sculpture, drawing, print, ceramic, glass, textile, collage, mixed media etc…of your choosing. Shortlisted works will be shown in the Wales Contemporary exhibition, at the Waterfront Gallery, Milford Haven, Wales. The panel of judges include Ashley Hall, Janette Kerr, and Mehdi Moazzen.
There is a prize of total £12,000 for selected artists. And the top prize for one of the artist is £3,000. 1st Prize is £2,000, 2nd Prize is £1,000, 3rd Prize is £750 and 4th Prize £500. While three dimensional prizes include 1st Prize £2,000, 2nd Prize £1,000 and 3rd Prize £500. Public’s choice prizes include 1st Prize £1,000, and 2nd Prize £250. Deadline is 21st of August 2023. Entry fee is £15 for one work, £25 for two and £30 for three. All artists aged 18 and over are invited to submit 2D or 3D artworks in any medium – but photography, digital prints or film. 2D works may be up to 70cm in any dimension. For 3-dimensional work the maximum size is 50cm in any dimension. There is no minimum size limit. The artwork must be for sale and sale prices should be inclusive of 30% commission and must have been made in the last three years.

Opening of the exhibition for public will be from Saturday 21 October – Wednesday 20 December 2023, with a Private View on Friday 20 October 2023 at 2.30pm. 2023 is its 4 year, Wales Contemporary / Cymru Gyfoes in Welsh, and is an international open competition.
