Why Chappell Roan Will Vote For Kamala Harris Without Endorsing Her

Chappell Roan took to TikTok to slam people who thought she was “playing both sides” of the political spectrum after she critiqued both political parties.

In a TikTok posted Wednesday morning, the singer expanded on a Tuesday TikTok in which she defended her comment to The Guardian that she didn’t feel pressure to endorse a presidential candidate because there are “problems on both sides.”

“Obviously fuck the policies of the right, but also fuck some of the policies on the left,” Roan said in Wednesday’s TikTok.

She said “endorsing and voting are completely different” and that she couldn’t stand behind the left’s “transphobic and completely genocidal views,” seemingly referencing America’s support of Israel in the war in Gaza.

“I’m not gonna settle for the options that are in front of me,” she said. “And you’re not gonna make me feel bad for that.”

In an interview published Friday, Roan told The Guardian, “I have so many issues with our government in every way. There are so many things that I would want to change. So I don’t feel pressured to endorse someone. There’s problems on both sides. I encourage people to use your critical thinking skills, use your vote — vote small, vote for what’s going on in your city.”

She also referenced trans rights in the upcoming election and said cis people shouldn’t make decisions for trans people.

In Wednesday’s TikTok, Roan clarified that she is voting for Vice President Kamala Harris but is not “settling for what has been offered because that’s questionable.”

She encouraged people to vote because it’s “all we have right now in the system.”

Roan has been outspoken about the war in Gaza. She declined an invitation to the White House to perform at a Pride event, telling Rolling Stone that she considered going and reading poetry by Palestinian women in protest but decided against it after speaking with her publicist.
