Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” Gets 1 Billion Views on YouTube

Even though she has passed away several years ago, it feels as though Whitney Houston has never left our world. The reason for this is because of her incredible voice and the excellent music catalog that she left behind. As a vocalist, she was acknowledged as one of the best to ever pick up a microphone.

After listening to her music, it sticks in the mind and fills the heart. Whitney Houston fans will always feel that way, and for the newer generations who are just learning about her as a singer, they will start to realize how special of a musical artist she was. Something magnificent happened recently; her YouTube video of “I Will Always Love You” exceeded one billion views on YouTube.

That is an incredible accomplishment and is a testament to the greatness of her music. “I Will Always Love You” is a fan-favourite that was featured in the movie The Bodyguard, a film she starred in with Kevin Costner. The song is often played at weddings, church gatherings and other events that regard sharing positive, loving energy with others. The part of the movie where she is singing the song outdoors on a snowy night, is a wonderful aesthetic that many of her fans remember.

Taking someone with such a unique and powerful voice and putting them on the big screen makes their musical capabilities shine even brighter. Whitney went on to do a few other films, but she primarily focused on creating music and her legendary live performances. A billion views on YouTube says a lot about the artist. Sometimes there is a movement behind the music.

For example, when Psy’s “Gangnam Style” reached such a high point on YouTube it was almost like the precursor to the various K-Pop artists that are popular today, which includes everyone from BTS to Blackpink.Whitney, on the other hand has reached a billion views without a special movement involving her music. It reached this milestone because new generations are realizing why she had the nickname “The Voice”.

It is incredible when new artists get so many views, but it is also special when established artist reach these kinds of numbers (even though they are no longer here). Hopefully, this trend continues where the new generations will want to experience the music from previous generations.

Artist like Gloria Estefan, Shania Twain, Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand and other artists with unique voices may find their music videos getting higher views on YouTube because people from Generation Z want to understand why Millennials and others from Generation X talk about these artists so much.

In today’s music environment, producers are remaking older songs now more than ever before. Vocalist are also borrowing lyrics from legendary singers and performers. This is a good thing when the music production is high-quality. Whitney’s music is seldom remade because most of her songs require a broad vocal range. Whitney has been an inspiration for many vocalists, and will continue to be so as long as her music is streamed through technology.
