The Coin Girl series explores the themes of blockchain technology and femininity. One of them portrays a girl’s hand and leg dancing like a puppet in the middle of a yellow coins. Her work is wonderful and fairy tale-like. People are depicted as puppets and machines that are driven by the desire to accumulate economic capital in the blockchain and NFT arenas. They are often used as instruments for gaining wealth in this digital trade sphere.

Varvara Alay lives in Tbilisi, Georgia. She intends to bring the complex paracosms of her imagination to life. Paracosm is a prolonged fantasy world invented, usually by children. She gives her fantasy characters and land to her works, which range from several children’s books and board games to jewelry.

Though uncanny and surreal, Alay’s works expose truth and reality. The artist takes us on a journey of unbounded imagination, yet that does not imply it is free from references to the real world.
