Tyrese Claims Snoop Dogg Is More Famous Than JAY-Z

Tyrese has made a controversial claim that Snoop Dogg is more famous than JAY-Z.

The singer and actor stopped by Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay, where the duo discussed the popularity of The Doggfather and Hova, respectively.

Tyrese began by asking a question: “Who’s a bigger rapper globally? Most famous of the two. JAY-Z or Snoop Dogg?”

He added: “If JAY-Z and Snoop Dogg were in a mall in Moscow, who would shut the mall down?”

Tyrese said it was Snoop, adding: “Biggest fucking superstar in the world. That’s my big homie. Long Beach, West Coast, I wish a motherfucker would.”

While the battle between the two rappers is up for debate, Snoop recently revealed that Paul McCartney, perhaps the biggest musician on the planet, is a fan.

Speaking to Complex earlier this month alongside longtime friend and collaborator Dr. Dre, Snoop detailed the wild (and weed-friendly) interaction.

“You know what’s crazy? I was doing a little concert for somebody in Hollywood. Paul McCartney was there,” he began. “I’d never met him before but I’m a fucking fan of the Beatles. I know Jimmy [Iovine] knows him, Dre knows him. I’m in the back smoking and they like, ‘Sir Paul would like to meet you.’ I’m like, ‘For real? Hold on.’

“I put the blunt out. Cuz walked in the room like, ‘Don’t put that down.’ He gives me a hug and he meets me and it’s like, Paul McCartney knows who the fuck Snoop Dogg is. Fuck who Snoop Dogg is; this is Paul McCartney! He knows who I am! That’s the experience I love is when people you respect, respect you.”

Tha Doggfather was then asked if he would collaborate with McCartney, answering: “Fuck yes. In a heartbeat. ‘Ebony and Ivory,’ ‘The Girl is Mine’ — what you wanna do?”

Snoop Dogg is currently gearing up to release his new album Missionary, which will mark his first full-length collaboration with Dr. Dre since his 1993 debut Doggystyle.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight following his recent Olympics performance, Dre shared more details about the eagerly anticipated project, which he’s confident will be another jewel in his acclaimed catalog.

When asked about working on Missionary versus Doggystyle, Dre said: “It was much more fun, to be honest, because we were kids at that time. Snoop may have been 18 or 19 years old and I think I’m six years older than him, so we were kids at that time.

“This one’s gonna show a different level of maturity with his lyrics and with my music. I feel like this is some of the best music I’ve done in my career […] I’m not playing.”
