According to Variety, The Queen’s Gambit, The Mandalorian, Saturday Night Live, The Crown and Pose were the productions that received top honors on the first night of the Creative Arts Emmys, which were held in downtown Los Angeles.

Netflix typically does extremely well at this event and the company has 12 wins so far this season.

The management of COVID-19 was a priority for event organizers. The event was held outdoors with social distancing policies as well as everyone wearing masks to protect themselves. It speaks volumes when the celebrities and entertainers that we care about so much are willing to wear a mask at a major industry event, it sends a positive message to everyone that follows them on social and digital media.

The Queen’s Gambit won in categories for period costumes, makeup, production design and cinematography.

The ceremony took place on the twentieth anniversary of the terror attacks on 9/11. Keith Raywood had the following to say: “Twenty years and two weeks ago we did our first show back,” Raywood said of “SNL’s” return to production after the attacks. “That was the first time I realized I worked on more than a show, but something that mattered on a much bigger scale in people’s lives. Last year it felt very similar to that moment.”

Many people would agree with Raywood’s assertion that the COVID-19 pandemic has also put several places around the world in a state of crisis, he would also agree that art can help people through these tough situations.
