The Boynes Emerging Artist Award, an international art competition, in a new partnership for the 7th Edition of Rural Residency for Contemporary Art (RUC), is an actual art residency based in the Valcamonica Valley in the Italian Alps. There will be 1st Place, 2nd Place and 3rd Place winners of this edition with the opportunity to participate in a month-long artist residency. The idea of residency is for artists to reconnect with nature, history, and culture of Valcamonica and take idyllic beauty of the mountains back to art space of villa RUC. The rock drawings in Valcamonica comprises one of the largest collections of prehistoric rock art in the world, perfect for artistic inspiration, style and subject matter appear to derive from a search of expression, synthesis and symbolization which vary from period to period. As Italy’s first UNESCO world heritage site due to prehistoric rock engravings, the valley and surrounding mountains Val Camonica became habitable around 15,000 years ago, at the end of last ice age, with the melting of the glacier that first carved out the valley. The first humans visited the valley in Epipaleolithic times, and have settled by the Neolithic period. The competition gathers emerging visual artists of any nationality, age, religion, or sex are welcome to submit their art via the Boynes Emerging Artist Award’s website. All 2D & 3D artwork with any subject are accepted. Artwork must have been completed in the last five 5 years and must be artist’s own original work. The award has partnered with Blick Art Materials, PR For Artists, and NoceFresca to provide emerging artists with the best opportunities . Beyond the scope of each edition, the award’s platform aims to build a long-lasting community, supporting and promoting artists’ careers even after the winners and finalists are announced. Submissions will be open from August 1, 2022 and will be accepted until October 30, 2022. Early bird fee $35 for 3 images & $7 for each additional image, and standard entry fee $45 for 3 images & $10 for each additional image.

The Boynes Emerging Artist Award, founded in 2019 by Chantal Boynes offers 1 month fully funded residency, exhibition, and publication. The RUC Artist Residency Program will host, at the same time and together, the first (1st), second (2nd) and third (3rd) place winners in the 7th Edition of the Boynes Emerging Artist Award for a one 1 month residency from the 1st August 2023 to the 31st August, 2023, offering accommodation at RUC art residency for the time period of the residency, studio space, residency assistance, cultural activities, and networking with local and international artists.
