The Alchemist & ScHoolboy Q Reconnect On ‘Ferraris In The Rain’

The Alchemist and ScHoolboy Q have joined forces for yet another collaboration, and it’s further proof that they’re one of the most potent rapper-producer partnerships in the game.

Released on Tuesday (September 10), “Ferraris in the Rain” is unlike any other song from the TDE rapper and veteran producer as it features verses from both men, not just Q.

Over a quirky horn loop and crashing drums cooked up by himself, The Alchemist — who is no stranger to the mic, despite his pedigree behind the boards — opens the track with some braggadocious bars.

“I rip the ‘Rari in the rain / Ice in my veins, I’m sippin’ on Bacardi straight / Just getting started, I hardly ate / Icing all on me, I’m a birthday cake,” he spits.

He then passes the baton to ScHoolboy Q, who delivers a short but carefree verse filled with four-wheel flexes of his own.

“The Rolls grill, is that the pearly gates? / The big clock, got the bumpy face,” he raps.

Proving that their rhymes aren’t just the stuff of fantasy, the song’s accompanying video — directed by New High Filmz — features cameos from Alchemist’s red Ferrari and Q’s white Rolls-Royce.

“Ferraris in the Rain” serves as the lead single from The Alchemist’s upcoming album The Genuine Articulate, which drops September 20.

It follows a string of previous collaborations from the West Coast natives, who began working together over a decade ago.

Their first joint effort came on ScHoolboy Q’s 2011 mixtape Habits & Contradictions (“My Homie”), with The Alchemist going on to produce fan-favorite album cuts like “Break the Bank,” “Kno Ya Wrong” and “Lost Times” from his most recent LP Blue Lips.

They’ve also connected on “Fork in the Pot,” “”W.Y.G.D.T.N.S.” and Conway The Machine‘s “Shoot Sideways,” as well as the original version of Oxymoron‘s “Hoover Street” which was later released in 2016.

During an appearance on Danny Brown’s self-titled podcast earlier this year, ScHoolboy Q spoke about his love The Alchemist, who he’s previously called his “favorite producer.”

“That’s my brother. I don’t think I can ever make another album without him. I love that dude,” he said.
