Time for Something New!

After twelve years of writing Gilded Age historical romance, I found myself ready to stretch my wings and try something new. Like most authors, I read across a wide range of genres, and I’ve been itching to try my hand at writing Contemporary Romance.

Here’s why: I have a couple of terrific story lines that simply won’t work in a gilded age setting. For example, I want to write about research stations in the Arctic; the challenges of marine archaeology; and perhaps a big, sprawling family epic set within a cool industry (along the lines of Dallas, the old television drama.)

My first Contemporary Romance will be set in the area where I live, which is rural Florida. Summerlin Groves features one of my favorite tropes, which is a second-chance romance. Jenny and Wyatt seemed to be perfect for each other until a tragedy broke them apart several years before the novel opens. Jenny is the owner of an orange grove, and Wyatt is running to become Florida’s next Commissioner of Agriculture. Summerlin Groves has romance, mystery, and a light inspirational touch.

I am really excited for this novel. While it has the same vibe as my historical novels, it was simply much easier for me to write. Perhaps because I live in the middle of orange country? Or that I actually live in the contemporary era? Either way, I simply loved every moment of writing this novel, and I hope people who enjoy my historical novels will follow me into the world of smart, clean contemporary romance. For new readers, if you like intelligent characters, deeply emotional storylines, and periodic flashes of quick wit, I hope you will give Summerlin Groves a try!

Elizabeth Camden is best known for her engaging romance novels featuring clever heroines and richly layered storylines.
