Stranger Things Season 5 Features an ‘Absolutely Heartbreaking’ Max Scene

Stranger Things Season 5 will include an “absolutely heartbreaking” scene involving Sadie Sink’s Max.

Sink has played Max in Stranger Things since the second season of the Netflix series. As her role became increasingly pivotal, Max stepped into the limelight in a big way in Stranger Things Season 4, although the season ended with her character in a coma.

Speaking with Variety, Sink briefly spoke about what Stranger Things Season 5 may have in store for Max.

“They love having me run,” she said. “That’s all I’ll say.”

What did Matt and Ross Duffer say about Max’s heartbreaking Stranger Things Season 5 scene?

Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer, also known as the Duffer Brothers, confirmed that Max will “play a part” in the final season of Stranger Things despite currently being in a coma. Ross noted they “don’t want to reveal how that’s possible” at this time.

Matt, however, provided a few more details.

“I think [Sink has] grown just more confident as an actor and in her choices,” he said. “We did film a scene the other day with her that was just absolutely heartbreaking. I don’t know how she hits those notes.”

Stranger Things Season 5 is currently filming in Atlanta. Along with Sink, the final season will star Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Jim Hopper, Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley, Priah Ferguson as Erica Sinclair, Jamie Cambell Bower as Vecna, Cara Buono as Karen Wheeler, Amybeth McNulty as Vickie, and Linda Hamilton in an undisclosed role.

Stranger Things Season 5 does not yet have an official release date, though it’s expected to premiere in 2025. The first four seasons are currently streaming on Netflix.
