Attention, Squid Game fans: We are so back, baby.
If you recall, Season 1 of the hit Korean Netflix series was released in the bygone era of 2021. Since then, all we’ve had is a slew of reality shows and YouTubers exploring the concept, all of which seem somewhat antithetical to the point of the original.
The trailer opens with this shot of contestants running a track race, a bold move during the Olympics.
Because this is Squid Game, it quickly turns into players having to hurdle over bodies. Good god, is this my favorite show?
We then see an arena full of guards as the Front Man says, “It’s been three years. Do you want to play again?”
We also catch a fresh shot of the murderous doll Young-hee as the creepy theme music plays.
However, there is one more big announcement: Squid Game Season 3 will be its last, debuting in 2025.
Series director, writer, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk further wrote in a letter to fans, “On the first day we began shooting Season 2, I remember thinking, ‘Wow, I can’t believe I’m back in the world of Squid Game.’ It felt almost surreal. I wonder how it will feel for you to be back in Squid Game after three years, as well.”
“Seong Gi-hun who vowed revenge at the end of Season 1 returns and joins the game again. Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either. The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year,” he added.
