Vesa Peltonen is a versatile creative artist who uses a variety of mediums, including drawing, mixed media, painting and photography. His inspiration as an artist derives from an examination of the unconscious in order to display an inner world filled with movement and spirit. In previous works he has also produced surrealism, expressionism and pop art.
“Spiral Out” displays the juxtaposition between color and movement with traditional lines. Upon first observation, it is easy for the observer to notice the swirling nature of yellow, orange, red, green and blue paint. Initially it appears like a spiral in; however, when you observe it from the reverse perspective, the small portion of paint at the center of the canvas is being unraveled and is met by four lines-two in each corner diagonally. These lines represent a framework and a restriction. The artist may be making the statement that art has influential movement that exist through certain parameters.
The artist’s creative direction depicted an image that can be observed from two directions, spiraling in or spiraling out. Each observation method will result in viewers experiencing the abstract painting in different ways.
