‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ Has Strong Opening Day

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse earned $51.75M on opening Friday from 4,313 locations which includes $17.35M from Thursday night previews. This is the largest opening of the year, surpassing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s $48.1M.

The film is expected to reach $113M by the end of Sunday.

In an interview with Variety, chief film critic Owen Gleiberman extended some praise, expressing that “the film advances the story into newly jacked-up realms of wow-ness that make it a genuine spiritual companion piece to the first film. That one spun our heads and then some; this one spins our heads even more.”Across the Spider-Verse features returning cast members Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy and Jake Johnson as Peter Parker. New characters include Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Isaac), Jessica Drew (Issa Rae), Spider-Man India (Karan Soni) and Spider-Punk (Daniel Kaluuya).
