Song Premiere: Confront Your Status with Codespeaker

[ad_1]

October is just around the corner, night beckons earlier, and the coming of colder, darker days looms in the not-so-distant future. In other words, it’s post-metal fall. Continuing the string of incredible post-metal tracks, videos, and albums premiering here over at Heavy Blog is Heavy, I’m delighted to share the latest song from Scottish hypnotists Codespeaker

“Usud” opens Scavenger, Codespeaker’s upcoming sophomore album. Mesmerizing from the onset, ethereal textures quickly cascade into a wall of sound weighed down by sludgy currents. Abrasive howls add emotional resonance and further aggression, juxtaposing against a soft-yet-poignant melodic thread woven into the Codespeaker sound.

Soaring guitars and seering vocals bleed seamlessly into introspective atmospheric moments, setting the stage for the complex and intensely emotional album that awaits. Codespeaker fearlessly – yet thoughtfully – expand their sound and explore new realms with Scavenger, incorporating numerous new influences while still retaining the massive textures that made their debut pop in 2022. “Usud” captures both the established and the experimental sounds of Codespeaker, offering an absorbing reflection on their growth as a creative force.

The band shared their thoughts on the new single:

“Usud looks at the notion of birthright and the role that luck and privilege has in what we perceive as success. How willing we are to disregard it when it works in our favour and blame it when it doesn’t. How we rewrite our own stories to explain why we deserve everything we have while others don’t. The role that tradition, inheritance and class play in entrenching and compounding these fortunes and misfortunes.

A song can’t hope to fix such problems, but it can hopefully serve as a small reminder to challenge what you believe you’re entitled to, acknowledge the privileges you have and have grace, consideration and empathy towards those who may not have had such fortune.”

Scavenger will be released on November 8th via Ripcord Records. Pre-order the album at this link
