“Something In The Water” by Navah Sea is the sound of sitting down with a cup of chai and figuring out your life. The instrumentals are reminiscent of No Rome, The 1975 and The Japanese House (some of my favorites!).
There is a blend of both acoustic and digital sounds that lulled me into a peaceful state. I think no matter where I was mentally, the rhythmic emphasis on the 2nd and 4th beat from the start of the song to the end would bring me right down to earth. If that doesn’t bring you down from wondering how you will get all of your work down for example, Navah Sea’s vocals call to you, “There might be something in the water. Don’t get scared by it.” There just might be, but perhaps I can get shit done.
The real fun starts when the instrumentals start to get a little more varied, the guitar squeaks and a bell chimes. There are shuffles of shakers and sweet electronic beeps. Just when the music reaches a high in comes a whining resonant guitar that just sent me soaring emotionally. After a few moments the synths came back and I took another sip of my chai.
Navah Sea is an British songwriter, producer and visual artist that is now based in Los Angeles. Perhaps their proximity was what made me feel so connected to their work. “Something In The Water” is the first single off of Navah Sea’s newest album so there is much more to come, which sounds wonderful to me!
