The most exquisite, most perfect Latinx Romance of this year, Natalie Caña wrote the hell out of this book.
About the plot
This is the third Vega sibling installment and probably the most messiest. (I say that in the best way.) In previous books like A Proposal They Can’t Refuse and A Dish Best Served Hot, we met Leo. The raunchy, silly, hottie sibling. Leo is recovering from a gunshot wound that caused A LOT of change in his abilities. Many of us know how much of a toll that can take, knowing you are not the same like before and re-discovering a new strength from it all. We also have Sofi, we last saw her in A Proposal They Can’t Refuse. A big rift between Sofi and Kamilah that came about still lingers in the air and Sofi is back from Europe ready to heal and mend.
What we didn’t know
But what we didn’t know is that Leo and Sofi have been HOOKING UP SINCE HIGH SCHOOL. Yes, all the way into adulthood. As Sofi is back from Europe and literally starting from scratch again. She needs a place to stay, she needs a better job, she needs to stay away from Leo (so she says.)
It just so happens that Leo has an extra room for her to stay in. After a year of no-contact between these two, and this fiery animosity that they both like to act on, all this makes the yummiest back and forth combo ever.
Final thoughts
I am head over heels over Sleeping with the Frenemy. This book is the perfect story of an on again off again relationship. The years of hiding the hook ups mixed with this longing that grew and grew… ROMANCE PERFECTION.
The Puerto Rican representation is exceptional. Natalie Caña has expertly created a swoony romance with the most perfect cultural incorporation. The culture is vivid and beautiful, the characters are by default such a wonderful extension of my experience. I feel very attached to each and every person I met in this book.
I also am in awe and equally proud of how with each book, Caña’s writing evolves more and more. Her word weaponry is sharp, is felt deeply, and makes for beautiful art. I cannot wait to continue learning about the Vega siblings. Each love story is so different, so far. Sleeping with the Frenemy is the book you must read!
