I’ve been a Sinead O’Connor fan for a very long time. The first time that I saw the music video for the single “Nothing Compares to You,” I was a kid that was mesmerized by her performance and style. She remains one of my favorite artists today. What I appreciated most about Sinead is that she is authentic and does not chase the limelight; she simply wants to create great music, and with her talents, that often includes music that is performed in her unique way.
I think that over the year’s she has not deserved some of the tabloid reporting that has surfaced throughout her being a public figure. In recent interviews, Sinead seems to have overcome the pressure that the tabloid press can put on you as an artist that is constantly being covered by the media. Too often the public and the media takes these artists for granted, they sometimes forget that artists are real people who deserve respect and privacy.
Such is the moment for Sinead. Multiple media outlets have confirmed that she is dealing with the death of her 17-year-old son, Shane- who was found dead in Ireland last Friday. Prior to the discovery, Sinead had made reports to authories stating that her son was missing.
The authories found the body in southern Dublin.
Sinead tweeted: “the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God. May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby, I love you so much. Please be at peace.”
Sinead was there to help her son through two failed suicide attempts and hospitalization.
Her fans around the world are pouring out their deepest condolences in this matter on social media.
