‘Scrubs’ Reunion on Family Feud, is a Reboot Next?

Over the past several years there have been a few Scrubs reunions; however, the original cast and crew may be close to seeing a revival of the show on video streaming services or a brand-new reboot for the franchise. While those decisions have yet to be made, a reunion took place on a celebrity episode of Family Feud.

Castmates Zach Braff and Donald Faison (who are the host of a podcast entitled Fake Doctors, Real Friends) competed against their co-star Neil Flynn on the game show. After viewing the show, it is clear that these actors still have a comedic chemistry with each other and if there were a production company interested in a reboot of the franchise all of the original cast would be perfect fits to make a return to one of the most popular comedies to ever air on television. If they do go through this creative process, the writers will have to keep in mind that each character will need to have different obstacles and goals in their lives, as a reboot would be taking place over a decade later than the ending of the original show.

During a Twitter Q&A in 2016, Braff stated that he would be open to a reboot if the right opportunity were available. “You never know about making more Scrubs episodes,” Braff said. “It’s something we all talk about, especially now that all these people are going back and doing Netflix versions of their shows. I’m very jealous of all this Gilmore Girls and Full House attention. We talk about it every now and then. So, you never know! It could happen. I’d do it.” Faison said in a similar statement in 2017. “It would have to take everybody to come back to do the [Scrubs] reboot,” he explained to Page Six. “Not just the cast, but also the producers and the writers to make it work, in my opinion. So I’m not saying it’s not going to happen, but I’m not saying it is either.”

Co-star Sarah Chalke is ready for a reboot. She told Variety: “I would be into it. I would love to do it,” Chalke said. “We’ve talked about it. I think everybody’s lives is so crazy, but we all talk about how cool it’d be to do something like the Psych cast did. I think it’d be so much fun to do something like that.”

Showrunner Bill Lawrence has stated that he would be on board for the reboot if the production team is interested in creating art rather than simply making money. He feels that the show is too good of a comedy to have it return only for financial success of the producers; he sees a reboot as an opportunity to do something creative that will make its original viewers and a new generation laugh at the wonderfully crafted scenes and storylines present within each episode.
