Does Scotland in the UK really have a film industry? From edge-of-your-seat thrillers and blockbuster, starring with gorgeous Ewan McGregor let say, to action movies or to rib-tickling comedies and boutique art-house films, Scotland has been the setting for an eclectic range of productions. But how about a small art film? I mean, at least we can take into a consideration an art film or, if we talk in this dialect, a wee little, fewer film festivals on the territory of rather small Scotland. Mind you, there is one deadline approaching soon.
The Scottish SIFF, a brand new Scottish International Short Film Festival will another year of 2023 screen outstanding short film, animation, documentaries, experimental film and video art. An international jury will select the 7 winning categories including, SIFF Best International Short Film, which will receive £500. SIFF will bring national and international film makers to make films about diverse and ever-changing locations around Scotland. At the moment, SIFF is Scotland’s only “nomadic” international film festival. SIFF have partnered with Scotland’s major, internationally acclaimed the Centre for Contemporary Arts, in Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow. The festival will run from 20th – 22nd April 2023. SIFF’s program of events will include three-days of live screenings, Q&As with industry leaders, filmmakers, and artists, panel discussions and social events. There will also be a live-stream of some events on the festival. SIFF is created to showcase exceptional short films, in order to address the imbalance of under-represented groups of makers and stories within film festivals. The stories of and by women, girls and non-binary people that are (under)recognized in many film festivals, to encourage submissions from anyone self-identifying non-binary or such etc…SIFF supports a culture of equality, diversity and non-discrimination. For further reference you can view the selections of another sister film festival, Barcelona International Short Film Festival.
