Sabrina Carpenter is still channeling a swinging sixties aesthetic. From the Bardot hair to the Beach Blanket Bingo vibes of the “Espresso” music video, it’s clear to what she is harkening. And she continued the theme at Outside Lands 2024, with a cover of Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made for Walking.” And she brought out special guest Kacey Musgraves, to boot. “We look so good, oh my God!” Carpenter exclaimed when Musgraves made her appearance. Her bootless appearance, but we’ll let it slide. Carpenter played the tambourine for the performance, an instrumentalist!
The pop girlies are no stranger to Nancy Sinatra covers. Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Caroline Polachek, and G.E.M. have all covered “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down),” and only half of those were for Minions 2: The Rise of Gru. And in 2001, Nicole Kidman and Robbie Williams covered Nancy’s duet with her father “Somethin’ Stupid,” de-creepifying the song by several orders of magnitude.
