Ryan Reynolds Gets Into The Negroni Week Spirit With Tony O’Groni

MAXIMUM EFFORT

It’s that time of year again—Negroni Week! To mark Aviation Gin’s second year as the official American Gin for the event, Ryan Reynolds has dropped a hilarious video introducing Tony O’Groni.

In an email statement shared with The Blast, Negroni Week, which runs from September 16 to 22, unites bars and restaurants worldwide to honor the legendary Negroni while supporting Slow Food’s goal of promoting a fairer and more sustainable food and beverage industry.

Fans instantly fell in love with the promo, with one individual admitting, “This man was born to entertain. I don’t even drink and I love the ad. I am finding that generally, advertisers think we are all dumb and they can throw anything at us. Buck up all you advert people, you want me to watch, entertain me. Thanks, Ryan.”

The video begins with Ryan introducing his new “spooktacular” friend, Tony O’Groni—a scarecrow with a pumpkin for a head. When Ryan says O’Groni’s name to the camera, O’Groni responds, “I will not make a martini. My name is Tony O’Groni.”

“Who said anything about a martini?” Ryan asks.

The two continue their playful exchange, with the pumpkin-headed scarecrow declaring, “I do not answer to you. My name is Tony O’Groni and don’t you f-cking forget it.”

This is, by far, his first time marketing the gin. In fact, he loves getting involved in the ads because “marketing is one of my biggest passions, besides performing. I love that part of it.”

“I especially like it when marketing is an extension of whatever you’re trying to introduce people to. ‘Deadpool’, for instance, I love that the ‘Deadpool’ marketing campaign has always been, and will always be, a direct extension of the movie,” he told Forbes. “We’re not just showing scenes from the movie, we’re showing additional footage, new things.”

“With Aviation, I haven’t had to do that much. There’s a ton of unsexy parts to it. It’s the flying to Dallas and talking to buyers. I FaceTime huge board meetings, hotel meetings,” he continued. “All kinds of stuff. It’s the legwork. That’s the part I enjoy. I don’t mind going into a room and talking to people about why I love this so much. I think that’s how you build. I don’t think you build it by clever fun social media stuff or viral videos – even though we’ve done some of those things because it’s fun for me to do. It’s really about the legwork.”

“My only goal was to own a gin I found delicious,” Reynolds told High Life when discussing why he chose to get involved with Aviation. “I literally bought the brand because I kept ordering the same Negroni, only discovering afterwards that it was Aviation Gin that made the Negroni so wonderful.
