Rosa Bonheur is known for her realistic animal paintings through which she has developed international acclaim and has become an inspiration to other visual artists over the last two centuries.

When the artist started, there were limited academic opportunities for the creation of visual art. However, she was born in a family of painters and explored illustration early in life thanks to the inspiration of her creative family members.

Bonheur was celebrated during her lifetime. Google is celebrating her (Wednesday, March 16, 2022) with a Google Doodle in honor of her 200th birthday.

The artist was born in Bordeaux, France. It has been noted that she created illustrations for all of her academic studies in school in order to remember the material better. As she grew older, she gained an interest in developing animal art as a career. She was awarded the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor by Empress Eugenie, becoming the first woman to achieve the honor.
