Depeche Mode into the Hall of Fame

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Depeche Mode officially entered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame about a week ago but accepting the award remotely. The band were introduced by Charlize Theron, and honored by the likes of Arcade Fire‘s Win Butler and Chvrches‘ Lauren Mayberry. The band also mentioned the importance of former members Vince Clarke and Alan Wilder, calling them “part of the DM history and the success of this band”. Other people included in the speech were director and film director Anton Corbijn and Mute Records’ Daniel Miller, manager Jonathan Kessler and longtime touring members Christian Eigner and Peter Gordeno. Other artists that were included in the Hall of Fame 2020 included Whitney Houston, The Notorious B.I.G., Nine Inch Nails, T. Rex and The Doobie Brothers. I guess that Depeche Mode truly deserve this! The band is awesome liked by everyone: one of the rock bands that became very mainstream and managed to stay indie-alternative at the same time. Dave Grohl rocks in 2020 induction of  Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony  virtually

“The artists are all very different, but they share one crucial virtue in common: the undying spirit of rock and roll. Tonight, we celebrate this new class in the Rock Hall as we’ve never done before. And as they tell their stories, we tell ours, too.” Dave also said that the Rock Hall is “not just a place, it’s an idea”. In the end Dave Gahan, Andrew Fletcher, and Martin Gore spoke about Depeche Mode’s induction quite warmly. Gahan thanked everyone who “took a chance on a bunch of outsiders, eyeliner-wearing weirdos from Essex, and all of the wankers who didn’t,” with Fletcher teasing that Gahan “would’ve still been stealing cars” if it wasn’t any music.

A bit of humor at the time of Covid-19. Wonderful! Can’t bask in the glory enough! I frankly expected more of Iggy Pop to have say regarding this institution. And yes, must mention Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor, who said that he “didn’t give a fuck” and “honestly couldn’t give less of a shit” about the institution, who too accepted his induction with Nine Inch Nails and thanked the Hall for their “recognition” for their very beginnings of industrial rock music. Also, Whitney Houston is one of several 2020 inductees who were honored after death, which is good I guess, but again I could say for her behalf, not good enough.
