Regé-Jean Page Not Returning for Bridgerton Season 2

Saturday night live Rege-Jean

Not a good day for Bridgerton fans: Breakout star Regé-Jean Page is officially leaving the series after one season.

It is rumored he may get up for the James Bond’s role this could be a slam dunk but let’s see if the coveted role could go to a black man. I’ll wait. Seeing black people as heroes is not how this white world wants to paint us. We prostitutes, gang bangers, drug dealers, and just blame is not good. Black Panther may have changed all that we will see. James Bond Sky fall made 1.1 billion dollars lets see if the reboot with a black man can beat it? Just saying it might.

On the show’s Instagram and Twitter pages, a letter penned by Lady Whistledown confirmed on Friday that the Netflix hit will move on to season 2 without Page, who played Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings.

“While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings,” the note read. “We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family.”

The letter noted that Phoebe Dynevor, who played the Duke’s love interest Daphne Bridgerton, will return: “Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer — more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear.”

He is known for playing Chicken George in the 2016 miniseries Roots and from 2018 to 2019 was a regular cast member on the ABC legal drama For the People. In 2020, Page starred in the Netflix period drama Bridgerton as Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings.

Page was born in London to a Zimbabwean mother who was a nurse and an English father who was a preacher. He is the second youngest of four children and was in a band with his little brother. Page spent his childhood in HarareZimbabwe before returning to London for secondary school.

After returning to the UK, Page took up acting as a hobby during Saturday school. The National Youth Theatre changed his trajectory. After two years of auditioning, Page was accepted to Drama Centre London, graduating in 2013.

Page began his career on stage, appearing in The History Boys and The Merchant of Venice opposite Jonathan Pryce. He also starred in the final season of BBC Three drama series Waterloo Road in 2015.

It was always supposed to be a one-season story.  He was just damn good in it.

In 2016, Page made his American debut playing the role of Chicken George in the History Channel big-budget miniseries Roots, a remake of the 1977 miniseries with the same name, based on Alex Haley‘s 1976 novel, Roots: The Saga of an American Family. The series and Page’s performance received critical acclaim.[10][11][12] Also that year, he was cast as a male lead in the ABC pilot Spark. The following year, he was cast in the Shonda Rhimes-produced legal drama series For the People.[14][15] The series was canceled after two seasons in 2019. Page also appeared in the 2018 post-apocalyptic film Mortal Engines and had a supporting role in the 2020 drama film Sylvie’s Love. He later was cast in a male leading role in the Shonda Rhimes-produced period drama series Bridgerton for Netflix.

In February 2021, it was announced that he had been cast in the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons film.

In March 2021, it was announced that he joined the cast of the upcoming Netflix movie, The Gray Man, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.
