Radiantia Articulum, the Conceptual and Experimental

An Art Call

LA’s Articulum is seeking submissions for upcoming in-person exhibition of an original art show featuring works that utilize fluorescent materials that can interact with UV lighting. The theme of this gallery will be the relationship between the lost and the found, the heard but not seen, night and day. The exhibition is featuring conceptual in nature and experimental in technical application. Each artwork should have a distinct visual in a normal setting and then a separate visual when seen in UV lighting. The applicants are asked to explore this theme, in order to create a  vibrant, alive and meaningful environment for gallery. How to explore aspects of society and culture, just like a surrealist artist in juxtapose of the two very different objects in order to create unsettling artworks? And with using fluorescent lights artists are asked to feature conceptual in its very nature. Many art works actually exists in the shadows of presented or painted objects. Artists are using different types of shadows by using a mix of techniques. How to cast hard shadows on a surface, and then to create softer shadows with illumination. On the other hand, the shadow-catching phosphorescent material on the wall of the exhibit may not be just a “glow-in-the-dark” if it is put in the right context with the other part of the artwork, because a glow in the dark is energy from incoming light that gets absorbed in this material to excite electrons to a higher energy state.

The exhibition will be held in a gallery space where the lighting system will cycle between UV lighting and standard lighting every 90 seconds throughout the entire duration of the show. All this allows all artworks to be seen in both states in order to amplify the aforementioned theme. One section of the gallery space is dedicated to the host artist and the other dedicated to the small group of selected submissions. There are 2 general criteria for the art work that artists need to include, artistic excellence and gallery theme relevance.  Artists need to send examples of the artist’s previous work that showcase their skill, technique in order to demonstrate how the artist intends to approach the project and how proposed work reflects the gallery theme, by the usage of various fluorescent materials, to get the uniquely aesthetic/conceptual implementations.

Medium allowed is paint, clay, textiles, fabric, ceramics, sculptures, installations, glass, and mixed media, in order to be incorporated with fluorescent material, fluorescent powders, paints and specific mix. It is asked from artists to be creative and ambitious with approach while including new material. Exhibition will be hosted by an emerging art house founded in California called Articulum, LLC. This is a brand focused on conceptual, performative art movements centered around certain art discussions. There is a fee $15 USD per application for*3 images. The gallery welcomes submissions from artists at various stages of their career, including emerging artists or established professionals. Deadline is 04/29/2023. The artist will receive sales remittance between 10-15 days after the exhibition ends and will receive a comprehensive receipt detailing all sales. Gallery retains 30% commission on all exhibition sales.
