An entire community is feeling a range of emotions from sorrow to outrage after a 15 year old teen that went missing from a Louisiana parish was found dead days later.
Family and friends of Quawan “Bobby” Charles are questioning the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death, suggesting that there was foul play involved. The teen was last seen leaving his home on October 30th with his white friend and the friend’s mother.
It was the last time that Quawan was seen alive.
His mother, Roxanne Nelson, is extremely upset at the friend’s family, saying that they did not ask her or the father’s permission before picking up her son. She attempted to contact her son and was unable to reach him for several hours after he left before she contacted local law enforcement.
Twitter user @GaryChambersJr revealed audio of a call between Nelson and a parent of another child that is friends with the family last seen with Quawan. She says the family was doing drugs before picking up Quawan and that their family car smelled like bleach days after picking him up.
His body was discovered by the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s office on November 2nd laying in a field in Loreauville, Louisiana. Leaked photos of the child’s body showed his face was swollen and discolored with several injuries. Parts of his jaw were exposed and a large laceration was on his head. This has led a number of people to believe that Quawan was assaulted some time before death.
Detectives investigating the case have not yet ruled the death a homicide and have not provided much information on the case other than to note that the death is “suspicious”.
The community has come out in protest demanding justice, holding an action on Wednesday, November 11th outside the Iberia Parish Courthouse.
Police are keeping Bobby’s parents from going into the area where his body was found and are being very discreet with the information they provide. No one is trusting the system at this time nor its an investigation.
