Pusha T Begs Adidas To Bring Back Run-DMC Sweatshirt For Clipse

Pusha T has urged Adidas to resurrect their iconic Run-DMC sweatshirt from the 1980s for the Clipse.

Pusha, who has a longstanding partnership with the sportswear brand, was interviewed on the Ghetto Runways podcast when he revealed that he wanted to bring back the design.

He said: “Run-DMC, respect in peace Jam Master Jay. I’ve been begging Adidas to recreate that sweatshirt for myself and my brother. I want your blessing. I will do whatever I have to do. Ya’ll call this begging? It’s cool, it’s Run-DMC. I’ve been asking to do this for so long.”

He added: “So iconic. Trust me, it would be perfect. Perfect rip, I wouldn’t manipulate anything too much. And I definitely would make it gold standard, for sure.”

After years of hints, Pusha T and No Malice recently confirmed that a new Clipse album is in the works, which would mark their first since 2009’s Til the Casket Drops.

In an interview with Vulture, King Push fueled excitement by describing the project, tentatively titled Let God Sort ‘Em Out, as “high taste-level piece of work.”

“I think the album shows the supreme maturation of a rap duo,” he said. “I think this is where you get the difference between taste and filler. This music is curated. This is a high taste-level piece of work. You can only have that level of taste when you have the fundamentals down to a science. I think it’s been definitely missing. Then there’s the competitive aspect.”

No Malice added: “This is smart basketball. It’s fundamentals. And not only that, it’s authenticity. It’s what rap should look like if you’re real about your craft, real about your experience, real about your storytelling. It’s bringing the fans along to see the growth, not trying to fit in or fabricate.

“It just seems like in other genres of music, they have the luxury of growing. For some reason, we act like we’re not supposed to evolve. This is what the true evolution of the Clipse looks like. It’s just good to be able to show that and still have high-level raps.”

Pusha also revealed that longtime collaborator Pharrell would be handling production duties: “Pharrell producing everything is also an ode to the type of music and the type of albums we want to make. We still want to make full bodies of work. These are movies, man. These aren’t just songs. This isn’t just a collection of joints we went in and banged out.”

The Virginia Beach duo gave fans an early glimpse of the project in June by debuting a new song featuring John Legend at Pharrell’s Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer Men’s Collection fashion show in Paris.

They previously premiered another never-before-heard track last year, sparking a brief spat between Pusha T and Jim Jones over an apparent shot aimed at the Dipset capo.
