Prisoners In Finland Live In Open Prisons Where They Learn Tech Skills | On The Ground

Finland is known as the happiest country in the world. Free health care, free college, and free child care and the only reason in my opinion this works in there is no race issue in Finland, nobody to hold down. Finland is a relatively ethnically homogeneous country. The dominant ethnicity is Finnish but there are also notable historic minorities of Finland-Swedes, Sami, and Roma people. As a result of recent immigration, there are now also large groups of ethnic Russians, Iraqis/Kurds, Estonians, and Somalis in the country. America could rehabilitate its criminals if they were not interested in the prison pipeline, which is now big business and it needs inmates to survive. This prays on black and brown communities and causes irreversible harm.  Finland only has 3000 prisoners in jail. America has half the population of Finland in jail.  The ghetto is created by racism and that is the determining factor for prisoner’s lack of opportunity. That is the real reason they don’t approve 15.00 an hour minimum wage; the prison population would go down in America with an increase in the minimum wage. Finland has the lowest per capita incarceration rate in the European Union, with just 51 people per 100,000 in some form of prison, according to the World Prison Brief. This compares with 59 in neighboring Sweden, 140 in the United Kingdom, and 235 in Lithuania, which has the EU’s highest rate of incarceration. Feb 18, 2020. American prisons have extreme problems like overcrowding and long-term isolation which can cause hallucinations, depression, psychological regression, and even cognitive dysfunction. Along with poor living conditions, many inmates are part of the penal labor system. Thought to be rehabilitative, prison labor is common. Dec 18, 2020. The number of people incarcerated in state and federal prisons and local jails in the United States dropped from around 2.1 million in 2019 to 1.8 million by mid-2020—a 14 percent decrease. This decline held through the fall and into Jan 4, 2021
