Practical Research: Art and Technology

By the end of the year, I will have taken a technology course entitled ‘Practical Research in Cybersecurity’. Even though that will occur later in the year, I am already starting to think about the thesis statement and project I need to complete in order to get the Master’s degree. Although I have not solidified the final wording of the thesis it will be something similar to this: ‘Cybersecurity Strategies from Web 2.0 to 3.0, and its impact on digital businesses’. I’ve led online businesses in both the 2.0 and 3.0 frameworks and I think technology users would find my project interesting about how businesses have changed due to innovations. I also want to use arts and entertainment as a paradigm, since nearly all the websites I’ve ever produced were on that field, and made it possible for me to connect with readers and other users from around the world.

In the Web 2.0 environment, there were many software as a service (SaaS) options. With Web 3.0 there are also SaaS products as well as platform as a service (PaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS). During my research I will attempt to discover which platform is best for most contemporary online businesses and provide supporting information for the thesis.

In order to complete the project, I am going to evaluate my past experiences with Web 2.0. I’ve built successful web apps in the 2.0 environment, but 3.0 is a different type of model. With 2.0, it was much easier to get your blogs out on the search engines and receive traffic from Google, Yahoo and Bing. However, the search algorithms are different for 3.0 and it causes online businesses to adapt to Google’s new policies, build a following on social media and produce content that is sharable and informative. 3.0 also has higher expectations for cybersecurity policies.

I am interested in discussing the evolution and innovation of web properties and its cybersecurity implications. I am looking forward to building the case of what businesses should expect from 3.0 and how they can effectively upgrade their current policies and technologies to be in compliance with search engine and social media policies.
