The Roots: No, The Roots doesn’t have a new record to set the mood for this weekend’s Ravinia concert. Chicago Hip Hop Weekend: Kick off your weekend with the Chicago Tribe 30th Anniversary Jam, featuring breaking and house dance battles as well as a special performance by Rhymefest. Then, on Sunday, witness the Battle 4 the City graffiti jam, as artists compete for a $12,000 prize. Food, art vendors and DJs will be on hand. Bucktown Arts Fest: It’s Bucktown’s turn to host a Chicago festival. The 37th annual Bucktown Arts Fest features two stages — one designated for jazz — along with nearly 200 artists, kids’ entertainment, food and a craft beer tent with a rotating selection on tap. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 24-25 in Holstein Park, 2200 N. Chalk Howard Street: Artists will take to Howard Street in Rogers Park to render elaborate two- and three-dimensional chalk drawings on the sidewalk. A limited number of squares are also available to individuals and families who’d like to try chalk art for themselves. Sonido Fest: Find an eclectic mix from indie pop to cumbia at Sonido Fest in Pilsen. The lineup features both local and international musicians, including Victor Internet, Ariel, Mariah Colon, Arroba Nat, Gabacho and SouthSide Bandits. Sunday in the Park with Lyric: The Lyric Opera takes over Millennium Park Aug. 25, starting with a child-friendly Art-See Jamboree. Storyteller Jasmin Cardenas will interpret “Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World,” an upcoming production for the Lyric’s Opera in the Neighborhoods program. The event also includes opportunities to create art, take photos and get free gift bags. An open dress rehearsal for the day’s main event, “Sunday in the Park with Lyric,” will start at 2:30 p.m. followed by the formal performance at 7 p.m. Lyric music director Enrique Mazzola will conduct, and the show will feature favorites from the 2024-25 Lyric season as well as artist-in-residence Karen Slack. Jamboree is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the East Lawn of Millennium Park, 201 E. “Sinatra by Request”: The Chicago Jazz Orchestra and vocalist Paul Marinaro perform Frank Sinatra favorites, featuring the same arrangements Sinatra used in the original recordings of the songs. “Alina Nazmeeva — Bug in My Software”: If you haven’t yet visited Chicago Gamespace, a video game museum in Logan Square, artist Alina Nazmeeva is giving you a good reason to go. Her exhibit “Bug in My Software” considers bioengineering through the lens of the silkworm, blending screens and textiles to create a mind-bending consideration of how physical and digital worlds merge. 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays through Sept. 1 at Chicago Gamespace, 2418 W.
