Fans of the Hulu series, Only Murders in the Building, will rejoice as the second season has dropped. Like the first season, the series has a great list of actors. This series features the likes of Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. But joining them include the likes of Shirley MacLaine, Jackie Hoffman, Cara Delevingne, Tina Fey, and Amy Schumer.
The series focuses on the death of the building president, Bunny. Found in the apartment of Mabel (Selena Gomez). Like the previous season, Charles (Steve Martin) and Oliver (Martin Short) start amateur sleuthing to help solve the case and prove Mabel’s innocence.
Created by Steve Martin, Only Murders in the Building became an instant hit. It is a series that slowly grows on you, and you’re 100% committed before you know it. What is fascinating about the series is that it is located in Manhattan and references many of the city’s famous buildings. The building they all reside in is the famed Apthrop Building, located on 390 West End Ave.
The previous series focused on the death of a couple of people in the building and the unlikely coupling of Charles, Oliver, and Mabel to figure out who the killer is. But what was intriguing was the slow reveal of the lead characters’ backstory and how they came to live in the prestigious property on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
In the first series, the three characters start a weekly podcast. The success of the podcasts quickly catapults them to notoriety as the podcast series becomes a hit with people all over Manhattan who are curious about the ongoing deaths in the building.
The unexpected guest appearances on the series are also what keep you captivated. In series one, Sting, Ali Stroker, and Nathan Lane regularly appeared throughout the ten episodes.
We already have Amy Schumer as a regular in season two as she now resides in the building. A pure joy to watch is Shirley MacLaine. She appears as Bunny’s mother; she just happened to appear and is captivating in a role that has been written for her as perfect.
As in season one, season two has many side stories revealed. These stories include where is the erotic painting of Bunny’s, who will take care of Bunny’s talking parrot, and what is going on between Mabel and Alice (Cara Delevingne)?
Only Murders in the Building show off the creative talents of Steve Martin. Is there anything this man cannot do? He has continually adapted and evolved his abilities over the years, acting and writing.
Martin has created a series appealing to all generations but pokes fun at his aging generation.
The series highlights how people can learn new skills, like creating a weekly podcast and amateur detective skill to help solve a series of murders and gain some notoriety.
Only Murders in the Building is a fun and great series to binge watch.
