Oklahoma-based hip-hop artist Jabee has had a busy month. Born Jonathan Blake Williams Jr. in Oklahoma City, Jabee began his music career at seven. Despite early hardships, including his family’s homelessness and the tragic death of his brother in 2001, Jabee’s experiences only fueled his passion for music. Hip-hop icons like Chuck D of Public Enemy and Sway Cameron have recognized his work. In fact, Chuck D once said, “Jabee’s music has the potential to change the world.” Jabee’s talent and contributions have earned him three Emmy Awards for his work in commercial music.
On September 3, 2024, Jabee released “God Made Rap” from his forthcoming album, “The Spirit Is Willing, But The Flesh Is Weak. ” Evidence, known for his masterful work behind the boards, produced the album.
Jabee explained, “This song captures the challenges of trauma while highlighting the journey of overcoming these obstacles.” The song focuses on resilience, personal growth, and the power of unwavering belief in a better future, while emphasizing how rap music has served as an outlet for Jabee to process and overcome these challenges.
On September 17, 2024, Jabee quickly followed up with “No Love,” marking the second single off the album. Conductor Williams — who previously worked with artists like Drake, J. Cole, and Tyler, The Creator with Westside Gunn — is the producing genius behind the single.
“‘No Love’ is a call for self-respect and the courage to set boundaries,” said Jabee in a statement. “A track that captures the frustration of dealing with phony people and the exhaustion of being expected to handle their bad decisions.”
Coming fully in October 2024 through Mello Music Group, Jabee’s new hip-hop masterpiece, “The Spirit Is Willing, But The Flesh Is Weak,” is an upbeat Eastside rap journey featuring producers Conductor Williams, Apollo Brown, Marv Won, Quelle Chris, and Evidence on the boards. Having recently emerged from grief and inner struggle, Jabee pours his entire being into each song, narrating a stirring tale of bravery and sincerity. By going deeply into his own experiences, the emcee confirms his role as a spokesman for his community.
Every beat and phrase demonstrate Jabee’s unwavering devotion to his work and community, turning pain into poetry and suffering into beauty. This album is a powerful tribute to the human spirit’s ability to overcome adversity and succeed. Follow Jabee on Instagram!
