Nintendo Switch, China and the Economy

After becoming one of the best-selling products from this year’s Black Friday, the Nintendo Switch is coming to China with high hopes of expanding its userbase. The hybrid gaming console allows gamers to play in handheld mode or on a TV, it also features a variety of ways to control the action taking place on screen with its joy-con controllers and other accessories. The device has become popular in the United States, Japan and other markets. The console could significantly increase the economics of the gaming market in China.

Nintendo has currently sold over $36 million units worldwide. Making the console available in China could help Nintendo exceed its goals for the current physical year. While PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are already sold in China, the Nintendo Switch as a hybrid console may be just the innovation needed to become popular with the country’s gamers.

Starting December 10, Nintendo Switch will be available in China for the first time. While the country’s gamer base has been reluctant toward newer consoles, the expansion of Switch may change that trend.
