‘Night Court’ Lands High Ratings on NBC

NBC has aired some epic comedies on network television. While some TV critics think that sitcoms are a lost art, they would be surprised to discover the ratings of NBC’s Night Court. The production had a two-episode premiere, the first of which was seen by 7.4M viewers. The ratings were the network’s highest in five years.

The second episode was seen by 6.7M viewers.

The collective ratings are the best since NBC’s broadcasting of The Connors in 2018 and the return of Will & Grace in 2017.

Night Court is a workplace comedy which is a reboot of the original series developed by Reinhold Weege that ran for nine seasons in the 80s.  It centers on judge Abby Stone, the daughter of the late Harry Stone (who was originally played by Harry Anderson). She follows in her father’s footsteps, presiding over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court.
