New York State Launches the “Excelsior Pass” App

Today, New York State announced a new app on your phone called, ‘The Excelsior Pass’ on the new app ‘New York State Wallet’. It’s the first-in-the-nation app that you can download in the IOS App store. It can be used to get access to large-scale venues such as Madison Square Garden, Barclays Center, and dozens of other arts and entertainment venues statewide starting next week. The app was developed by computer giant IBM partnering with New York State.

Hopefully, other states will follow suit and have their own digital wallet app.

New York City Update reports that the app is championed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and is funded by the state and is available for free to businesses and individuals with state vaccination records.

Now that we’re in the digital age, people can have access to their health records with them ‘on the go’ with this new simple digital passport. No need to worry about losing the paper vaccine cards.

At just a click of the app, New York State residents will be able to prove their health status with a scan of a QR code or quick response machine-readable label after downloading the app and entering their name, date of birth, zip code, and a series of personal questions relating to their identity. The data will be accessed from the state’s vaccine registry and will be linked to testing data from various pre-approved companies.

To date, the United States is still vaccinating two million people a day. President Biden has upgraded his goal to get 200 million people vaccinated with at least their first dose within his first 100 days in office. I even landed my first vaccine appointment for the two-dose vaccine. It took me two months to get an appointment and I finally succeeded in landing one! Keep the faith and try hard if you haven’t scheduled your first appointment yet. Don’t get discouraged even though it’s difficult. Appointments are easing up daily.
