According to News 5 Cleveland, a new art exhibit is showcasing what the city has been through over the past few months, along with details on the country at large.
The exhibit is called “Art Made in Shutdown” and is located at the Worthington Yards Apartment Complex in downtown. More than 100 artist’s creations will be on display.
The artists are making social commentary in a variety of topics: COVID-19, racial injustice, social distancing, wearing masks and other related topics.
The exhibit will have a special open house on July 25, noon to 4 p.m. For additional information, please call (216) 570-0324.
Even though COVID-19 has been spread across the United States, causing the economy to close and then re-open in phases, artist continued to make their creations in a variety of mediums. Art is one of the few constants that remains when a country’s economy and public health are compromised; many artists create extraordinary works during troubling times in order to express constructive ideas that may inspire observers to take positive action during the country’s time of need.
While most people would agree that the containment of the coronavirus should be the top priority for the United States, there are politicians and others with powerful positions who use concepts regarding race to divide the people. Many art works have the mission of bringing people together rather than tearing them a part.
Lastly, art being used as an educational tool that teaches people the importance of wearing mask and other protective gear, as well as washing their hands regularly and maintaining social distances, is a positive attribute that will be on display at the exhibit.
