Naomi Campbell and Anna Wintour are not fans of each other at the moment. The fashion legends went at it during an NYC fashion show in front of a fully packed audience.
Anna Wintour was allegedly displeased over the supermodel’s tardiness as she was billed to present an award to Naomi Campbell that night.

Anna Wintour Tagged Naomi Campbell As ‘Often Late’
The exchange, as seen in a video on X, captured Wintour looking regal on stage and telling the crowd, “I am a very punctual person, and I have the honor of presenting tonight to someone who is often late.”
Shortly after her short speech, the Vogue editor got fed up with Campbell’s failure to show up on time and left the venue.
Samira Nasr, Harper’s Bazaar editor-in-chief, quickly filled in for Wintour to resent the Fashion Icon Award to the supermodel, who had already arrived on stage to accept her honor.
Campbell began her acceptance speech by admitting that she always runs late, but she countered by saying that things always work out the way they are supposed to.

She did not stop there; the model also slammed Wintour, declaring that she preferred Nasr’s handing out the award to her over the Vogue editor anyway.
“It wasn’t my choice to have the other lady. I’d much rather have this,” Campbell said to the sheer surprise and audible gasps of the listening audience.

The Editor And The Supermodel Use To Be Cordial
Things were not always this messy between the legends. Back in 2020, The Standard shared that Wintour appeared on Campbell’s YouTube series “No Filter With Naomi,” which she began in isolation from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The icons discussed at length, touching various topics, including working together on Campbell’s first September cover in 1989, which turned out to be the biggest Vogue issue of that year.
“You’ve been a huge part of my history with Vogue,” disclosed the editor, as Campbell replied, “You’ve been a huge part of my life.”
Wintour explained that she thought about the September cover that Patrick Demarchelier shot on a beach in the Hamptons, which had Campbell in a fire-orange, sequined Anne Klein suit.

Wintour Detailed Her Role In The Release Of Campbell’s Iconic 1989 Issue
The 74-year-old recalled that she had to present the issues by hand to the corporate board back then, as they did not have any technology. Members of the board included S.I Newhouse, who Wintour described as her boss and mentor. She added:
“I remember holding up your beautiful cover and showing it to him, and he said, ‘Oh Anna.’ It wasn’t a criticism in any way, it was just a question.”
The media executive continued, “He said, ‘You’re going to put an African American model on the September cover of American Vogue?’ Honestly, Naomi, it never crossed my mind to think that way.”
Wintour stated that the only thing in the back of her head was that Campbell “is a fantastic girl, this is the model of the moment, this is a great image.” And we made history together, so thank you.

The Supermodel Was Shocked At The Revelation
Campbell could not believe the cover was called into question in the first place. The 54-year-old expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the editor, saying:
“Wow, thank you! I’m honored that you put me on your first September issue of American Vogue,” adding, “I knew that you fought for me, but I never actually heard it in this way.”
The icons then discussed the annual Met Gala, which Wintour organizes and which is attended by celebrities across all genres in Hollywood.
The event served as a celebration and fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute. However, the 2020 event was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Wintour stressed the need for creativity in times of crisis, stating that it represented an important beacon to everyone.
