Organizational Profile
The Prior serves as a catalyst for an integrative, cross-disciplinary liberal arts education, centering the creative and performing arts within the development of Holy Cross students. The Prior is also a venue for extraordinary performances, events, and residencies by visiting artists; and for creative use by students, faculty, staff, and the greater Worcester community.
Finally, it serves as a means to attract diverse perspectives to the College, as a point of pride for alumni and families, and as a vehicle for new forms of engagement between the campus and the city of Worcester. It carries the College’s ambition for Holy Cross to become a regional arts destination, a goal encouraged by the world-class design of the building. The 84,000-square-foot facility was designed by architectural firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro, whose other cultural projects include the High Line, The Shed, Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, the UC Berkeley Art Museum, and the ICA Boston.
Destined to be a focal point on campus in the years to come, the ambitious and comprehensive Prior Performing Arts Center includes two theaters, the Iris B. Gerald Cantor Art Gallery, dedicated spaces for the fine and performing arts, as well as spaces and technology to support creative interactions between the arts and other disciplines.
