Menards is the third largest and biggest chain of home improvement company behind the name of Lowe’s and Home Depot. This home decor and improvement company was founded by John Robert Menard Jr. through his private company named Menard.Inc. John was born on January 22 in 1940. John is a renowned American billionaire businessman, investor, philanthropist, successful entrepreneur who own Menards and the mind behind its success. John is ranked 110th in the list of world’s richest man.

The company not just only sells home décor and improvement products but also sell lumber. Menard also deal with the development of residential real estate. What aspired John to begin Menards?

Earlier in 1958 John noticed that the farming industry was being revolutionized by new and advanced merchandising and new dairy farming systems which also demanded for low cost agricultural buildings to house the stock and machinery. This need of revolutionizing gave John an idea and aspired to develop his own pole building business.

Gathering more knowledge about pole building John started to work on his first pole building. The following year, numerous buildings had been erected in Eau Claire, in the area of Wisconsin. The name of John Menard started to gain reputation in the market and this early success made him purchase his first major piece of equipment which was a 1946 Chevrolet truck. Initially John had two major equipments which were an old Ford tractor and a Chevrolet truck. The demand for John’s pole building started to increase so it became compulsory for him to purchase more equipment and take on additional crews. 

Breakthrough for Menards and Its President John Menard

After completing his education from University of Wisconsin, John holds a degree of Bachelors in Arts he devoted all of his time to his pole building business. Later one Menard was first found as the Menard Cashway Lumber in 1960 by John Menard as its major stockholder and president. The owner purchased a land where a small office and shop were manufactured on the Eau Claire site.

The company started to sell purchasing lumbers and building materials to the public on a cash-and-carry basis. Later on the company added the functions of warehouses and manufacturing by adding plants, steel siding and roofing, beautiful interior and exterior doors, state-of-the-art composite decking, eco-friendly treated lumber, stone and block, engineered roof and floor trusses, fasteners and countertops. After two years, in 1962 the company was incorporated and renamed as Menards to this day.
