Meet Willow-the Bidens’ New Cat

In the first order of business Friday, the Bidens have announced they adopted a gray tabby cat named Willow.

First Lady Dr. Jill Biden met the cat first on the 2020 campaign trail, as Willow was interrupting the speech she was giving in Pennsylvania.

“Willow made quite an impression on Dr. Biden in 2020 when she jumped up on the stage and interrupted her remarks during a campaign stop. Seeing their immediate bond, the owner of the farm knew that Willow belonged with Dr. Biden,” Michael LaRosa, the First Lady’s spokesman, said in a news release.

The cat is named after Dr. Jill Biden’s hometown of Willow Grove, Pa. Willow is the first cat to live in the White House since President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush’s black cat-India. Last month, the Bidens welcomed Commander to their family, a 4-month-old purebred German shepherd puppy. Sadly last June, the Bidens’ eldest dog, Champ, passed away. They also have a dog named Major who they adopted from an animal shelter in 2018.
